Study in Australia

Adelaide University

Adelaide University was officially established through legislation in 2024 as a future-focused institution, bringing together the strengths of two distinguished predecessors — University of Adelaide (founded in 1874) and University of South Australia. With full operations scheduled to commence on 1 January 2026, it is set to become one of Australia’s leading public research universities.

Positioned among Australia’s most prestigious institutions, Adelaide University is aligned with the country’s research-intensive academic standards, including association with the renowned Group of Eight (Go8). Even prior to its full operational launch, its combined academic strength and global outlook place it on track for strong international rankings, with ambitions to be recognised among the top 1% of universities worldwide.

The university will operate across seven campuses in South Australia, including major metropolitan precincts in Adelaide along with Magill, Mawson Lakes, Waite, Roseworthy, and regional campuses in Mount Gambier and Whyalla. Each campus features modern, discipline-specific facilities, advanced research centres, well-equipped libraries, and comprehensive student amenities such as health services, fitness centres, dining outlets, and dedicated study spaces.

At inception, Adelaide University is expected to enrol approximately 70,000 students, making it one of the largest universities in Australia by student population. Around one in four students will be international, representing more than 90 countries, creating a diverse and globally connected academic environment.

Academically, the university will offer a broad spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across all major disciplines previously delivered by its predecessor institutions. With a strong commitment to innovation, equity, and excellence, Adelaide University aims to be a “university for the future” — driving transformational research, enhancing employability outcomes, and fostering lifelong alumni engagement.
